The German and French technology companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to integrate energy-efficient multi-orbit antennas with resilient satellite and 4G/5G networks, strengthening connectivity for Europe’s energy and industrial infrastructure.
German satellite communications provider EuroSkyPark GmbH and French deep-tech company Greenerwave have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop more resilient, energy-efficient communication systems for Europe’s critical infrastructure.
Announced on 26 October 2026, the partnership will combine Greenerwave’s electronically steerable satellite antennas with EuroSkyPark’s SatConnect communication platform. The objective is to provide reliable connectivity for energy suppliers, offshore wind farms, grid operators and industrial facilities, including during terrestrial network outages and power disruptions.
The collaboration focuses on creating a dual-hybrid communication architecture that combines geostationary (GEO) and low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellite networks with terrestrial 4G/5G connectivity. By providing multiple independent communication routes, the companies aim to reduce the risk of interruptions affecting essential infrastructure.
Energy-Efficient Satellite Antennas for Critical Infrastructure
At the centre of the partnership is Greenerwave’s Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) technology, which uses smart electromagnetic surfaces to control and steer radio waves electronically.
Unlike conventional mechanically steered antennas, RIS-based systems can dynamically direct signals without relying on the same degree of mechanical movement or semiconductor-intensive components.
According to Greenerwave, its antenna technology consumes up to ten times less power than conventional alternatives while significantly reducing dependence on scarce semiconductor components.
The antennas are designed and manufactured in Europe and are available in three configurations: GEO, LEO and combined GEO/LEO.
For critical infrastructure operators, lower power requirements could be particularly valuable at remote industrial sites and renewable energy facilities where maintaining reliable communications during outages is essential.
SatConnect Introduces Dual-Hybrid Network Resilience
EuroSkyPark’s SatConnect platform already combines satellite communication with terrestrial 4G/5G networks. The integration of Greenerwave’s multi-orbit antennas is intended to expand this architecture by introducing additional network redundancy.
The proposed dual-hybrid approach operates across two levels. First, terminals can switch between geostationary and low-Earth-orbit satellites. Second, the satellite connection is combined with terrestrial mobile networks, enabling automatic failover when one communication route becomes unavailable.
This architecture is designed to support critical operational data, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) traffic used to monitor and manage industrial infrastructure.
Thomas Maul, CEO of EuroSkyPark GmbH, explained:
“With SatConnect, we already offered a hybrid solution combining satellite and 4G/5G. With Greenerwave’s multi-orbit antennas, we are moving to a dual-hybrid solution: on one side, switching between GEO and LEO; on the other, combining satellite, whatever the orbit, with terrestrial 4G/5G networks.”
According to Maul, the system will provide multiple independent pathways for critical information, supported by automatic failover and secure end-to-end VPN connections.
The companies intend for satellite connectivity to remain available even when terrestrial infrastructure experiences a complete outage.
Strengthening Europe’s Infrastructure Security and Digital Sovereignty
The partnership comes amid growing concerns about the resilience of European energy networks and industrial communication systems.
Cyberattacks, large-scale power outages and disruptions to terrestrial infrastructure have increased the importance of communication technologies capable of operating independently of conventional networks.
EuroSkyPark states that its existing infrastructure provides 99.9% protection against communication failures, although the announcement does not include independent testing data for the new dual-hybrid configuration.
“The signing of the MoU with Greenerwave is a strategic milestone for us and for our customers in critical infrastructure,” said Maul.
He emphasised the importance of dependable communications for energy and grid operators facing increasingly complex operational threats.
Beyond network resilience, the companies also highlight the value of European-developed technology and supply chains. By reducing reliance on semiconductor-intensive antenna components and supporting domestic engineering capabilities, the partnership aims to contribute to Europe’s technological sovereignty.
Applications Across Energy and Industrial Networks
The companies are targeting infrastructure where communication interruptions can affect monitoring, coordination and operational continuity.
Potential applications include:
| Infrastructure | Communication requirements |
|---|---|
| Offshore wind farms | Remote connectivity for monitoring and operational data |
| Solar and wind installations | Communication between renewable assets and control centres |
| Electricity substations | Reliable transmission of grid monitoring and control data |
| Energy providers | Connectivity across distributed energy networks |
| Industrial facilities | Resilient communication for critical operations |
EuroSkyPark has been providing satellite connectivity for energy infrastructure since 2005, connecting facilities representing more than 30 GW of energy capacity.
Its SatConnect platform is designed and assembled in Germany and uses private MPLS routing with IPsec AES-256 encryption. The service is supported by a 24-hour Network Operations Centre.
The planned integration with Greenerwave’s antennas is intended to extend these capabilities by allowing operators to use different satellite orbits alongside terrestrial connections.
French-German Collaboration in Advanced Satellite Technology
The partnership brings together complementary expertise from two European technology companies.
EuroSkyPark specialises in secure satellite communication networks for energy infrastructure, while Greenerwave focuses on electromagnetic wave control and electronically steerable antenna systems.
Geoffroy Lerosey, President and Co-founder of Greenerwave, welcomed the agreement:
“We are very pleased to partner with EuroSkyPark, which shares our ambition to make critical satellite communications more resilient, sovereign, and energy-efficient.”
He added that combining the companies’ technologies could support the development of communication systems capable of operating in demanding environments.
Greenerwave’s satellite terminals are designed to support multiple orbital configurations and compatibility with satellite constellations, including OneWeb and the planned European IRIS² system.
The company also applies its electromagnetic wave-control technology to telecommunications and sensing applications.
Towards More Resilient European Communication Infrastructure
The agreement reflects a growing emphasis on redundancy, energy efficiency and technological independence in critical communication networks.
By combining GEO and LEO satellite systems with terrestrial mobile connectivity, EuroSkyPark and Greenerwave aim to provide infrastructure operators with alternatives when individual networks become unavailable.
The proposed architecture could be particularly relevant for renewable energy installations, offshore infrastructure and industrial facilities operating in remote or challenging environments.
However, the companies have announced a Memorandum of Understanding rather than a completed deployment. The release does not specify commercial launch dates, implementation costs or independently verified performance results for the integrated system.
As development progresses, the collaboration will focus on bringing energy-efficient satellite antenna technology into practical applications across Europe’s critical infrastructure sector.
