Your Online Presence: 3 Good Ways of Getting More Traffic to Your Website

With 25 percent of the world’s internet traffic, WordPress is the most popular web hosting system. Users view almost 24 billion pages a month in WordPress alone. With that volume of traffic, it’s difficult for your website to stand out.

By far, excellent customer service is the most important aspect of your website. According to Google, there are basically three ways to optimize your blog and static web pages in this way.

Engaging

Your blog is the best way to spread your company’s message. In fact, it may be the best way to connect with your customers. By writing engaging blogs, you develop consistent traffic to your site. Here are a few tips:

  • Share Stories: Readers connect with personal stories, so don’t miss this opportunity to weave them into your blog whenever possible. Your stories also inspire people and touch the things they are passionate about.
  • Promote Your Posts: Brief social media posts on platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn are a good way to reach more readers. If the post gets shared, that’s even better.
  • Useful Content: For the most part, website visitors want to be both enlightened and entertained. So, your web postings should make people smile and make people think. That’s especially true for Millenials, and this group is usually very loyal to a particular brand.
  • Make the Post Scannable: Most people simply peruse web content; the do not actually read it. So, use lots of short sentences (no longer than one line or so) and lots of short paragraphs (no more than three or four lines). Bullet lists are good too.

Most promotional social media posts are free, but you can also experiment with paid posts and see if they substantially improve your results.

Authoritative

Lawyers, doctors, plumbers, and other professionals automatically have some authority if they write about their areas of expertise. So, if you have someone else write your content, ghostwriting usually works better than guest posts.

Outbound links increase your authority even more, especially if they are .gov, .org, or .edu domains. If you do link to a .com, make sure that it’s not a competitor’s site. On a related note, always make sure the outbound links open in new windows. Suggestions vary, but most webmasters advise that you have about one link per every 150 words. If there are more, Google may punish your site for “unnatural outbound links.”

Trustworthy

This aspect of the EAT (engaging, authoritative, and trustworthy post) really has nothing to do with the post itself. It should have a link to a related landing page so you can keep the reader engaged.

Additionally, your website should also have a “contact us” page. Be sure that page has a phone number and not just an email or physical address. Closely monitor your email and try to respond within twenty-four hours. Also, if customers call, they should be able to speak to a human within just a few minutes. Partnering with an answering service is often a good idea.

If you follow these suggestions, your website traffic should noticeably improve, and that’s what it’s all about.
