Roger Osorio is the bestselling author of “The Journey to Reinvention: How to Build a Life Aligned with Your Values, Passion, and Purpose”. Dinis interviews Roger in the latest episode of the Dinis Guarda YouTube Podcast, powered by citiesabc, openbusinesscouncil, fashionabc, and sportsabc, to find out the path to reinvention from the expert himself.
Success is a concept that holds different meanings for different people. Some may see it as financial prosperity, while others may view it as achieving personal goals or making a positive impact on society. The meaning of success is subjective and can vary greatly depending on an individual’s values, beliefs, and life experiences.
One common thread among different definitions of success is the idea of personal fulfilment. Success is not just about achieving external markers of success, but also about feeling fulfilled and satisfied with one’s life. This may involve finding purpose and meaning in one’s work or personal life, pursuing passions and interests, and making a positive impact on the world.
Another aspect of success is the journey towards it. Success is not just about the end result, but also about the process of striving towards one’s goals. This process may involve overcoming challenges, learning new skills, and personal growth. The journey towards success can be just as rewarding as the destination itself.
During the initial years of his professional career in corporates, Roger was teaching part-time.
It was then that he realised that “teaching was, in fact, more fulfilling and impactful for me. That was my inflection point for a journey to reinvent myself.”
He further added:
“All that I have accomplished in my life until now, became possible because of that reinvention. And now, I ultimately find myself making an impact on a lot of different audiences.”
The Journey to Reinvention
Reinventing oneself is a process of making significant changes to one’s life, career, or personal goals. It is a journey of transformation that involves self-discovery, goal-setting, and taking action towards achieving those goals. People often feel the need to reinvent themselves when they find themselves stuck in a rut, dissatisfied with their current situation, or seeking a new direction in life.
Reinventing oneself requires taking action and stepping out of one’s comfort zone. This may involve trying new things, taking risks, and embracing change. It is important to be open to new experiences and perspectives and to learn from both successes and failures along the way.
It is important to create a plan of action. This includes setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. Breaking down the goals into smaller, achievable steps can help make the process more manageable.
“The most effective and empowering on one’s journey to reinvention is to start engaging in short-term experiments and projects. The more quickly you do it, the more you iterate your interests and learn new ideas and potential patterns”, Roger shared with Dinis.
As human beings, we have an inherent need for growth and progress. We constantly strive to improve ourselves, learn new skills, and achieve our goals. However, as we go through life, we may find that our circumstances change, our goals evolve, or our priorities shift. This often necessitates a persistent need to reinvent ourselves in order to keep up with these changes. According to Roger:
“We need to constantly reinvent ourselves. That’s the key theme. That becomes your journey. Every 3-5 years, our values, passions, and purpose go through some sort of shift. We are constantly evolving and changing for a variety of reasons. So, we need to keep up with them.”
The transformational power of curiosity
Curiosity is a powerful force that drives us to explore the world around us and seek out new knowledge and experiences. It is the fuel that propels us towards growth and transformation, both personally and professionally.
Curiosity allows us to approach the world with a sense of wonder and an open mind, enabling us to see things from new and different perspectives. It encourages us to ask questions, seek answers, and challenge assumptions, leading to deeper insights and understanding.
Citing and narrating a relevant example of how Leonardo da Vinci’s curiosity propelled him to become a great artist, Roger said:
“The power of curiosity lies in its ability to inspire and motivate us to pursue new ideas and possibilities, and to continue learning and growing throughout our lives. It is the key ingredient in one’s life.”
