How Liberty HealthShare Discloses SharePower Data

Most people who pay into a healthcare arrangement never see a clear accounting of where their money went. Premiums are collected, claims are processed, and the financial details remain internal to the organization. Liberty HealthShare, a nonprofit healthcare sharing ministry based in Canton, Ohio, takes a different approach. Members receive monthly financial data showing how their voluntary monthly contributions moved through the community during each reporting period, and a quarterly publication expands on what those numbers mean in the context of the ministry’s broader operations and financial decisions.

That practice of regular financial disclosure sits at the center of how Liberty HealthShare describes its accountability to both current members and anyone considering membership.

What SharePower Data Is

SharePower is Liberty HealthShare’s term for the monthly financial figures it reports to its membership. The data reflects the community’s sharing activity for a given period: contributions received from members, the total applied toward eligible medical expenses, and amounts still in process. Members access their individual ShareBox portal for personal updates and can view community-level SharePower figures through the ministry’s website.

Liberty HealthShare’s About Us page describes the controls behind that reporting: members’ contributions are subject to oversight and accounting controls that include written monthly accounting reports, sharing updates in ShareBox, and publicly posted access to annual IRS Form 990 returns and audits by an independent certified public accounting firm. Those numbers reflect actual sharing activity within the community during the reporting period, not estimates. Figures are updated each month and remain accessible to anyone on the ministry’s website.

The Quarterly Member Publication

Four times per year, Liberty HealthShare distributes its Member Quarterly to the full membership, a publication available publicly at issuu.com/libertyhealthshare. Each issue includes a letter from Chief Executive Officer Dorsey Morrow, ministry updates, program news, an employee spotlight, and regular columns on health and community matters.

Recent editions have carried financial announcements with direct relevance to members’ monthly contributions. The 2026 issues have addressed the return of more than $2 million to eligible members via direct checks, the reduction of family share amounts for Liberty Essential, Liberty Connect, and Liberty Unite by an average of 16% effective June 1, 2026, and the elimination of the Annual Unshared Amount for Liberty Assist, effective August 2026. Members received that information through the same publication that covers ministry news, devotional content, and team spotlights.

What distinguishes the quarterly from most nonprofit communications is the audience receiving it. Members are not passive recipients of a service. Their contributions fund their sharing community directly. When the publication reports a decision, it is reporting to the people whose voluntary monthly shares produced the outcome.

Why This Level of Disclosure Is Unusual

Healthcare sharing ministries are not insurance and are not bound by the regulatory framework that applies to licensed health insurers. They are not required to file financial disclosures with state insurance commissioners. They are not publicly traded and carry no shareholder reporting obligations. No federal agency mandates that a healthcare sharing ministry publish its audited financial statements, explain how monthly contributions are applied, or disclose the criteria by which medical expenses are deemed eligible. The amount of financial information any given ministry makes available is largely a matter of organizational choice.

Liberty HealthShare has chosen to make its IRS Form 990 and annual audited financial statements accessible on its website, a practice MinistryWatch cited as part of its evaluation when it awarded the ministry a 5-star efficiency rating in March 2026. That was the only 5-star rating among the eight healthcare sharing ministries MinistryWatch reviewed. The organization bases its assessments on data from IRS filings and independent audits, not on material submitted by the ministries themselves.

Charity Navigator awarded Liberty HealthShare a four-star rating, the highest available. Liberty HealthShare is the only healthcare sharing ministry in the United States to hold that rating alongside the Candid GuideStar Gold Seal. The Better Business Bureau maintains an A+ rating for the ministry.

What the Numbers Show

The financial record behind the disclosure practices carries its own weight. Since 2014, Liberty HealthShare has facilitated the sharing of about $5 billion in eligible, repriced medical expenses. During 2024 alone, the ministry shared more than $454 million in billed medical charges, repriced to just over $154 million, generating more than $300 million in savings compared to original billed amounts.

“Our focus is on our members, not on shareholders or next quarter’s profit,” Morrow said. “We are here to help facilitate sharing between our members. We are not driven by profit. After deducting a small percentage to operate the ministry, the contributions coming in should equal the contributions that go out.”

That philosophy produced a concrete result in May 2026. “It’s our members’ money and we are thrilled to be able to return it to them,” Morrow said of the $2 million distribution. “Our ability to do this is evidence that healthsharing works and enables our members to better manage their healthcare expenses.”
