Elise Quevedo Interview Notes

About Elise Quevedo’s background. I want to share something I haven’t shared before. When I was a child, at the age of 6, I wanted to work in the Telecom industry but I also was really interested in sport. But I took an IQ test and I was put into the genius bracket. My family did some sort of lobbying to me to follow an academic path and forget about my sports passion. So I was told I had to go to do an intellectual-driven career. I rebelled against that and went on my own looking for my own path in the UK. I took different roles in the UK until I found my way in the social and digital space working for different companies and helping others as a global thought leader. I like working behind the scenes, helping companies to thrive and get the best out of them, and that is why I got the “The Digital Ghost Queen” nickname.

I want to share a story here. Back in 2012, the Ukraine Prime Minister was in prison and I was working with his daughter. And while I was working with her and my email was hacked because of that I had to go through some hard times back then.

About the kick-ass attitude. You have to actually learn how to be happy about yourself. You need to shine inside before others can see everything you can offer. That’s the first thing I tell people when they ask me how to be successful. We need to value ourselves if we want others to value us. Integrity, trust are key traits. If we get to that point where we are self-confident enough to be happy with what we do, what we say, our ideas, etc, we are in the right place to become successful.

About thought leadership and influencer. I think the true power of social media is the ability to change someone’s life. The best takeaway of being an influencer is not measured by how many followers they have, but how many people they can truly reach… and change. That is the real meaning of “influencing”. One of the best things I have experienced working in social media is the long-term influencing.I have been very fortunate to keep in touch with people I have helped and see that I was able to change something in them. That what I said actually helped them.

As of now, the influencer world has evolved considerably in recent years. Now we have product influencers, B2B influencer, micro influencers, sector influencer, thought leaders, etc. We all know that P2P influencer works: when a brand talks people listen but that doesn’t necessarily mean that people trust what the brand says. What influencers and especially P2P influencers say are more trustworthy for the people, because they are reachable, they are recognisable, and people get to know them better.

To truly move forward we need to rebuild trust. Without trust we can’t have collaboration, seal alliances, innovate, build technology that people can be comfortable to use with. The first step I think we need to do is to embrace the digital, the emerging technologies and focus on the extra value they can bring. If we are all to go towards the common goal of making society better we need to make sure that technology will work for us and not the other way around.
