Stellantis: five-year Microsoft deal for AI, cloud and Copilot
Stellantis · Automotive · Global (release datelined Amsterdam and Redmond)
The challenge
The joint release does not describe a specific operational problem. It sets broad aims: faster and better connected digital processes in customer care, product development and operations, a modernized infrastructure with a much smaller datacenter estate, and stronger cyber defense.1
What was implemented
Stellantis and Microsoft announced a five-year strategic collaboration on 16 April 2026. The release separates what is live from what is planned.
- Live: every employee has access to Copilot Chat, and an initial 20,000 Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses are going to selected roles, supported by a training program designed for Stellantis.
- In progress: modernization of the infrastructure on Microsoft Azure, and more than 100 AI initiatives being developed jointly across customer care, product development and operations. The release gives examples but reports none of them as live.
- Planned: Stellantis will deploy and operate an AI-driven global cyberdefense center. Peugeot drivers may receive energy-efficient driving suggestions, and Jeep drivers are promised better connectivity in remote terrain.12
Reported outcomes

Reduction in datacenter footprint that Stellantis targets through its Azure modernization. This is a target, not a result23

What others can learn, and the limits
In our view, the useful pattern here is the tiered rollout: Copilot Chat for every employee, paid Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses only for selected roles, and a dedicated training program. A large manufacturer can control cost this way while it learns which roles get real value. The case shows a buying and rollout plan, not proven returns. No measured business results have been published, the 60% datacenter figure is a 2029 target, and the cyberdefense center and in-car features are announcements. Smaller manufacturers may find that Copilot Chat alone covers most office needs before they pay for broader licenses.
