PepsiCo: one collaboration platform as the base for Copilot
PepsiCo · Retail and consumer goods · United States (Microsoft's tag); operations in more than 200 countries
The challenge
PepsiCo has more than 320,000 employees, and they worked across a fragmented mix of collaboration and productivity tools. That slowed work and limited how far the company could use AI in the workplace.1
What was implemented
PepsiCo consolidated collaboration on Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams and deployed Microsoft 365 Copilot as its base for generative AI at work. It moved 3,300 video conference rooms to Microsoft Teams Rooms. The workplace services lead says building Copilot on existing Microsoft 365 access controls made the rollout simpler.
Adoption was phased. The Copilot program lead started employees on small habits such as scheduling calls and chatting in Teams, and a message from the Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer brought global leaders on board. The story names no partner and no agents.1

What others can learn, and the limits
In our view, PepsiCo's account suggests that high Copilot usage followed consolidation: one collaboration platform and one access model came first. Consumer goods companies still running several collaboration suites may need that groundwork before Copilot pays off. The evidence is thin, though. The only quantified result is a usage rate with no stated method, the page has a time-savings heading but gives only an executive's unquantified remark, and it cites both 250,000-plus unified employees and more than 320,000 employees without explaining the gap. A company already settled on another collaboration suite may get similar value from the AI features in that suite rather than migrating.
