A Career Built on Curiosity and Calm Decision-Making

Marissa Arbour did not set out to be a cybersecurity leader. She followed curiosity, solved real problems, and stayed consistent. Over time, those choices shaped a career that now places her at the center of modern security work across finance, healthcare, and technology.

“I was always more interested in understanding why something worked than memorizing how,” Arbour says. “That mindset carried me further than any single skill.”

Born in Roswell and raised in Alpharetta, Georgia, Arbour grew up in a household that valued logic and planning. Her mother was a math teacher. Her father worked in logistics. Together, they encouraged her to think ahead and break problems into parts. By high school, she was leading the tech club and competing in robotics, drawn to systems that rewarded patience and precision.

Education That Shaped a Systems Thinker

At Georgia Tech, Arbour studied Computer Science with a minor in Information Security. She spent time in capture-the-flag competitions, where students defend and attack simulated systems. These experiences reshaped how she viewed technology.

“It wasn’t about breaking things,” she explains. “It was about learning how systems behave under pressure.”

That perspective became central to her leadership style later on. She learned early that strong systems depend on both technology and people.

Early Career: Learning the Work Few People See

Arbour began her career as a Junior Security Analyst at a consulting firm in Atlanta. The work was detailed and often invisible. Vulnerability scans. Compliance reviews. Long reports that rarely earned recognition.

“That stage taught me discipline,” she says. “You learn that security is built quietly, long before anyone notices.”

She also noticed something else. Many teams struggled to understand security reports. In response, she simplified language and restructured findings so non-technical leaders could act faster. It was one of her first leadership moments.

“Clear communication reduces risk,” she says. “Confusion creates it.”

Fintech and the Value of Preparedness

Her next role took her to a fintech startup in Alpharetta. Growth was fast. Systems changed weekly. Security had to keep pace.

Arbour helped design secure cloud systems and wrote incident response playbooks. These guides became essential during high-pressure moments.

“When something goes wrong, people don’t need theory,” she says. “They need clear steps.”

The experience reinforced her belief in preparation over reaction. That belief followed her into the next stage of her career.

Banking, Scale, and Modern Security Operations

In 2018, Arbour joined a regional bank as a Senior Cybersecurity Analyst. There, she helped modernize the security operations center. She introduced SIEM tools and improved monitoring workflows.

But the bigger challenge was trust.

“Banking is about confidence,” she explains. “Security failures don’t just affect systems. They affect people.”

She worked closely with analysts, compliance teams, and leadership. Her approach emphasized shared responsibility rather than silos.

“Security works best when everyone understands their role,” she says.

Leading at Alphatech Solutions

Since 2022, Arbour has served as Principal Cybersecurity Analyst at Alphatech Solutions. In this role, she leads teams and advises clients across healthcare, finance, and technology.

Her focus is “security by design.” Instead of adding controls at the end, she helps organizations build protection into every step.

“You don’t bolt safety onto a building after it’s finished,” she says. “You design it into the structure.”

One healthcare client adopted this approach during a cloud migration. By integrating security checks early, the organization reduced long-term risk and avoided costly rework.

“That project showed how planning saves time later,” she says.

Leadership Beyond the Office

Arbour’s leadership extends beyond client work. She mentors young professionals and supports women in STEM through local programs. She also volunteers in Fulton County schools, teaching students basic online safety.

“Cybersecurity shouldn’t feel distant,” she says. “It’s part of everyday life now.”

Her teaching style mirrors her professional one. Practical. Calm. Focused on habits over fear.

Life Outside of Work

Outside of work, Arbour values balance. She hikes in North Georgia, practices yoga, and enjoys puzzles and escape rooms. She lives in Alpharetta with her partner, Jordan, and their rescue dog, Pixel.

“Stepping away helps me think better,” she says. “Most good decisions need space.”

A Leader Defined by Consistency

Marissa Arbour’s career is not defined by sudden breakthroughs. It is defined by steady progress, clear thinking, and thoughtful leadership.

“You don’t need to be loud to lead,” she says. “You just need to be reliable.”

In an industry shaped by constant change, that approach continues to set her apart.
