Featured above are the top five wellness entrepreneurs of 2019. The “Wellness Entrepreneur” is a new class of entrepreneur that is mission-driven, focused on wellness, and has a burning desire to make an impact on people’s health.
The terms “biohacking,” “butter coffee” and “bulletproof diet” have all been derived or created from some of the wellness entrepreneurs listed above. Many of the wellness entrepreneurs have a massive audience. Tim Ferriss’s podcast, The Tim Ferris Show, has exceeded 100 million downloads and his Instagram account is clocking close to 1 million followers at the time of this writing.
Wellness entrepreneurs are having a massive influence on our culture and the way people look at nutrition. Dave Asprey created a new diet trend called The Bulletproof Diet. He even changed the way people drink coffee by creating “Bulletproof Coffee” which is made by blending a hunk of butter mixed with MTC oil into your morning cup of joe.
The combined net worth of these wellness entrepreneur’s companies is in the hundreds of millions. They are now starting to create a stir within the financial world. Dave Asprey’s company Bulletproof 360, raised 40 million in a Series C round led by CAVU Venture Partners in 2018. Aubrey Marcus’s company Onnit generated 28 million in revenue in 2016 and is estimated to have a current run-rate of 73 million in annual revenue according to owler.com. Tim Ferriss is an angel investor who has reportedly been an early-stage investor in companies such as Facebook, Twitter and Uber to name a few.
Wellness entrepreneurs are also mission-driven. Some of them are even involved in philanthropic endeavours including, Rose Franklin who is the Founder and CEO of Pure Green Franchise. Franklin is on a mission to inspire healthier communities by connecting people with performance-driven superfoods. Pure Green recently announced a partnership with start-up Beam an app that lets Pure Green customers donate part of their purchases to the customer’s choice of four charities that have been pre-selected by Pure Green.
A select few of the wellness entrepreneurs have retail locations which are extensions of their personal brand and philosophies. While predominately an e-commerce business, Asprey’s Bulletproof brand has two Bulletproof coffee shops in LA and one in Seattle. Pure Green has seven retail locations in New York City with locations in development in Florida and Chicago with plans for franchising in other major cities. While Bulletproof cafes are privately owned, Pure Green has decided to franchise and is actively looking for franchisees to open up retail locations across the United States. Pure Green is slated to have 50 locations by the end of 2020.
Interestingly, all of the wellness entrepreneurs featured in this article are passionate about biohacking. A biohacker is someone who uses science and technology to make his or her body function better to operate more efficiently. Regardless of whether biohacking is or should be criteria for being a wellness entrepreneur is beside the point. With the success these wellness entrepreneurs are achieving, biohacking may be something worth looking into.
