Is MindsEye Worth It In 2026 Here’s What’s Actually True Right Now

Ask a search engine whether MindsEye is worth it and you’ll get a tidy summary: mixed reception, technical problems, a linear game some people expected to be open-world. All true. All also increasingly out of date.

A lot has happened to MindsEye since those launch-week verdicts were written. Here’s an honest look at where things actually stand.

Is MindsEye Worth It In 2026?

More than at launch, and the numbers back that up. MindsEye’s overall Steam rating is still “Mixed” — that score reflects the full history of the game, including its rocky June 2025 debut, and it moves slowly by design. But look at Recent Reviews — the score based on what players are saying in the last 30 days — and the picture is different: it’s been sitting at “Mostly Positive” for months now, as patch after patch has addressed the bugs and pacing issues that dominated early feedback.

The price has changed too. MindsEye now costs a permanent $34.99, down from its $59.99 launch price — not a temporary sale, a genuine repricing that reflects where the game is today. Combined with a much more stable build, it’s a fair bit easier to recommend than it was a year ago.

Is MindsEye Open World?

No. MindsEye is a linear, story-driven action-thriller, not an open-world sandbox in the GTA mold. That expectation gap was arguably the single biggest reason early reception was so harsh.

What often gets left out of that answer is Arcadia: a free creation toolkit that ships with the game and lets players build their own missions, races and challenges using the same world, vehicles and characters as the main campaign. It doesn’t turn MindsEye into an open-world game, but it does mean the world of Redrock City keeps expanding well past the credits — new player- and developer-made content arrives every few weeks.

How Long Is MindsEye?

The main campaign runs roughly 10–15 hours, with completionist playthroughs closer to 20. That’s a normal length for a story-driven action game — but it’s no longer the whole picture. Between the ongoing Arcadia missions and ever-expanding creator content, the amount of time you can spend in Redrock City has grown well beyond what the campaign alone offers.

Is MindsEye Connected To GTA?

Not directly. MindsEye comes from Leslie Benzies, the former Rockstar Games producer behind several Grand Theft Auto titles, and that pedigree is exactly why so many players expected a GTA-style experience. But MindsEye is its own original IP — a near-future thriller set in the fictional Redrock City, built around a different structure and different ambitions than the games Benzies is best known for. The connection is the creative lineage, not the genre.

Does MindsEye Have Multiplayer Now?

Yes. Update 8 introduced MindsEye’s first multiplayer modes: competitive racing across both developer-built and community-built tracks, and a chaotic team mode called Grenade Football. It’s a genuine expansion of what launched as a single-player-only game, and another sign that Build A Rocket Boy is still actively building rather than walking away.

What Is Arcadia, And Why Does It Matter?

Arcadia is MindsEye’s free, built-in creation platform — a set of professional-quality tools that let players build their own missions, races and experiences using the game’s world, vehicles, weapons and characters, without needing programming knowledge. Build A Rocket Boy has spent the past year releasing its own Arcadia-built missions alongside player creations, using them to demonstrate what the toolkit can do.

It’s the clearest evidence that MindsEye’s story doesn’t end at the credits. Whether or not Arcadia becomes a major creator platform in its own right, it’s already the reason the game looks meaningfully different today than it did at launch — and the reason that difference is likely to keep growing.

The bottom line

MindsEye had a genuinely difficult launch, and no update rewrites that history. But a year of steady patches, a permanent price cut, new multiplayer modes and an actively growing creation platform have made it a different game than the one search results are still describing. If the question is whether it’s worth a look today, the most current, honest answer is: more than the old headlines suggest.
