College is a lot of work, especially when you’re trying to stay on top of your assignments, keep your social life alive, and take care of your physical and mental health. Things can get overwhelming if you don’t develop healthy habits early on. It’s helpful to know that success to you might mean something completely different to someone else, so it’s never a good idea to compare your progress to someone else’s journey because it can make things harder for you.

Utilize University Package Lockers 

University package lockers are a great way for students to safely receive packages. As a student, you are likely to get a lot of packages, especially packages of expensive items. It’s hard to wait around for deliveries when you have classes all day, so university lockers are a convenient way to make sure your package remains safe until you’re able to pick it up. Certain lockers have time limits for how long you have to pick your package up, so make sure you learn about these ahead of time. 

Be Careful with Credit Cards 

Credit cards can be very helpful for college students, but only if they’re used correctly. There are some things to keep in mind for using them responsibly and helping your credit, such as paying your balance in full every month, creating a budget, and using multiple credit cards. It may seem fun to have credit cards with large credit limits so you can buy everything you want, but the thing to keep in mind is that you do have to pay it back with interest. If it’s not something you’re able to pay back in full the next month, you should probably avoid it and save up to pay it in full. 

Create and Stick to a Routine 

Your key to success in college will be creating a schedule and sticking to it. It’s one thing to spend time creating the routine, but it’s something else completely when you actually stick to it. A new routine can be a challenge to follow right away, but don’t beat yourself up for making mistakes. With practice, your routine will become a new way of life and easy to follow. Developing a good system means you need to write everything down so you don’t forget anything. This includes homework, events, tests, and anything  coming up with a deadline. 

Learn Time Management Techniques 

Learning time management techniques will be one of the best things you can do for college and your future. Your time is important, and if you successfully manage and plan your time accordingly, you will feel more at ease instead of constantly stressed about pending deadlines. Time management is all about self-control, turning off all distractions and prioritizing assignments. Determine what you have in your life that causes the most distractions. Things like social media, texting, YouTube, and Netflix can all eat away a lot of your time. It’s okay to spend time doing things you love to relax, but you should know when and how long to do those things. 

Pay Attention to Your Mental Health 

College life can get extremely hectic, but please don’t ignore your mental health. If you find you’re having a hard time with school work, lack energy, notice any changes in sleep or eating habits, or if you find yourself losing interest in activities you once loved, your mental health could be in jeopardy and shouldn’t be ignored. It can be a huge step to simply ask for help, but it’s a great place to start. 

College is typically when students feel more pressure than they’re used to, and with added responsibilities and the pressure to fit in, it can be hard to cope for just about anyone. Anxiety and depression can affect anyone, regardless of who they are and what kind of life they have, so it’s important to understand you’re not alone and help is out there for you.
